4 skin care resolutions to make in the new year
If your New Year’s resolution is to be healthier in 2017, don’t forget to include your skin! Don’t worry about overhauling your entire skincare routine all at once — make small changes along the way to avoid becoming overwhelmed and giving up. With that in mind, we compiled a list of minimal alterations to help you maintain a healthy complexion throughout the year.
This is probably on your list of resolutions already, but drinking more water is vital for healthier skin (don’t forget, our bodies are made up of about 70 percent water!). Stick to the 8×8 rule; eight ounces of water, eight times a day. There are apps you can download on your phone that will remind you to keep drinking that H20.
Stick to a Routine
Once you find your ideal skincare routine, write it down on a piece of paper and stick it on your bathroom mirror. This will remind you to take care your face before you go to bed and when you wake up. Soon enough, it will become second nature.
Your pillowcase can collect tons of bacteria fairly quickly, so you should aim to change your pillowcase at least twice a week. If you were lucky enough to score some cash over the holidays, you should also consider purchasing pillowcases made with natural fabrics, as they are known to be extremely gentle on skin.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Even though the holidays are over, the harsh cold weather is here to stay for a few more months, especially in Chicago. When you apply lotion or oil to your skin it locks in hydration, preventing dry, cracked skin. The long-term benefits of moisturizing, like anti-aging and even skin tone, are another reason you should moisturize every day.
Sticking to New Year’s resolutions can be hard, but if you start by making small changes, you will eventually reap the rewards. If you want to start the new year on the right track, consider treating yourself to a skin peel!
